RIP- Leslie Nielson

According to his nephew, actor Leslie Nielsen has died of pneumonia in a hospital in Florida. He was 84.

Nielsen was born Feb. 11, 1926, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. He came to Hollywood in the mid-1950s after performing in 150 live TV dramas in New York. His acting career spanned several decades, starting with episodes of series including The Philco-Goodyear Television Playhouse and Tales of Tomorrow and encompassing several genres. Moving into film, Nielsen first performed as the king of France in the Paramount operetta The Vagabond King with Kathryn Grayson. The film flopped, but MGM signed him to a seven-year contract and he starred in 1956?s Forbidden Planet for that studio. Although he was known for more serious roles, including that of the doomed captain in The Poseidon Adventure, he became known in later years for his deadpan delivery in comedies featuring absurd situations, including 1980s’ Airplane!

He also starred in a horror movie Prom Night with Jamie Lee Curtis in 1980 but since then has mainly been know for his deadpan humour style in movies such as Naked Gun, a huge hit in 1988 followed by two sequels – Naked Gun 2&1/2 & Naked Gun 33 1/3. Among his movies in the 90s were also RepossessedSpy Hard, Dracula : Dead & Loving It, Mr. Magoo & Wrongfully Accused. In the last decade he has acted in Santa Who, Men With Brooms & as President Harris in Scary Movie 3 & 4. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame & Canada’s Walk Of Fame as well as made an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Naked Gun and Airplane are two of my all time favorite movies. Please enjoy watching this video clip in his honor.

Men of a Certain Age

Men of a Certain Age is returning to TNT on December 16. TNT’s hit television series, stars Emmy® winner Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond), Emmy winner Andre Braugher (Homicide: Life on the Street, TNT’s Salem’s Lot) and Golden Globe® winner Scott Bakula. The series is a wry drama that explores the unique bonds of friendship among three men experiencing the changes and challenges of mid-life. Braugher recently received an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his performance as Owen in the show. The series follows the three men who have been best friends since college but now, in their 40s, are navigating through the second act of their lives.

John Lennon once wrote, “Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.” For three men entering the second act of their lives, those words are starting to hit home in TNT’s newest original series, MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE. This wry drama stars Emmy® winner Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond), Golden Globe® winner Scott Bakula (Quantum Leap, Star Trek: Enterprise) and Emmy winner Andre Braugher (Homicide: Life on the Street, TNT’s Salem’s Lot). It marks a return to series television for Romano, who created MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE with Everybody Loves Raymond Emmy winner Mike Royce. The two serve as executive producers, along with Rory Rosegarten and Cary Hoffman.

MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE explores the unique bonds of male friendship among three men experiencing the changes and challenges of mid-life. They have been best friends since college but now, in their 40s, are navigating through the second act of their lives. Joe (Romano) is a friendly, slightly neurotic, recently separated father of two who had dreams of being a professional golfer. Now he owns and runs a party store. Terry (Bakula) is a laid-back, handsome actor who seems to breeze through life (and women). Lately, he’s spending more time working as a temp than as an actor. And Owen (Braugher) is an overstressed husband and father of three who endures constant criticism from his father, for whom he works as a car salesman.

These friends face very different challenges. Joe, who currently lives in a hotel, tries to connect with his kids and is dipping his toe in the dating pool, while also struggling with the gambling problem that may have ended his marriage. The unmarried Terry scoffs at domestic issues but sometimes wonders if his own single life is all it’s cracked up to be. Owen does everything he can to climb the sales board at his father’s car dealership and keep his cool over the seemingly endless renovation project in the home he can barely afford. Through it all, these men are there for each other when it counts.men of a certain age, Ray Romano, Scott Bakula, Andre Braugher, tnt, middle age dramamen of a certain age, Ray Romano, Scott Bakula, Andre Braugher, tnt, middle age drama

Hell. Yes.

As the new season of THE CLOSER opens, the squad is moving into its new high-tech digs. But it’s not long before they’re wishing they could be back in their old space, where a plain white board nailed to the wall was more practical than the troublesome sliding screens in their new murder room. But true to form, Brenda is determined to bend the space to her style.

With the LAPD on the hunt for a new chief of police, Assistant Police Chief Will Pope (Simmons) is among those in the running. Should he get the job, it could mean a promotion for Brenda. The political juggling around the office soon leads Brenda to do some career-minded soul-searching. It also has her colleague, Robbery-Homicide Commander Taylor (Gossett), smelling a possible promotion for himself, even though he can’t even seem to wrangle an office of his own in the new facility.

On the home front, Brenda’s husband, FBI Agent Fritz Howard (Tenney), has some career changes of his own in store. After turning down a promotion that would have sent him to Washington, D.C., he’s now in line for a job that could not only keep him in LA, but give him and Brenda the chance to spend a lot more time together.

This season, Brenda and her squad will tackle cases involving a sniper shooting in a posh neighborhood, a possible serial rapist who uses a stun gun to immobilize his victims and a drug-related custody battle that ends in two deaths. Meanwhile, Detective Sanchez (Cruz) will struggle to care for a young boy involved in a case the squad investigated last year. And Lt. Provenza (Bailey), Brenda’s second-in-command, will once again find himself in a professionally embarrassing situation when a one-night stand with a flight attendant leads to the discovery of a dead body in her bathtub.

Also this season, Mary McDonnell (Battlestar Galactica) will reprise her role as Capt. Raydor, the by-the-book head of the Force Investigation Division, who has butted heads with Brenda on several occasions. This time, her presence could have major implications for Brenda’s future in the department.

About Mary Tyler Moore:

60th+Primetime+Emmy+Awards+B+kJG3nKMKsrGl

Seven-time Emmy® Award winner Mary Tyler Moore holds a special place in people’s hearts as a symbol of female independence and strength, both in her work and personal life. Her first taste of success came as Laura Petrie on “The Dick Van Dyke Show” from 1961-66. During the 1970s, she starred in “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” which garnered twenty-nine Emmys® during its seven-year run, including four for its star. Moore then transferred her talents to films including Ordinary People for which she earned an Academy Award® nomination, and Six Weeks, for which she had the joy of co-starring with Dudley Moore. The highly acclaimed comedy Flirting With Disaster won positive reviews for the film and its stars.

She made her dramatic debut on Broadway in Whose Life Is It Anyway? in which she portrayed a hospitalized quadriplegic fighting for control of her own destiny and was honored with a Tony Award. In 1988, she played Mary Todd Lincoln in the NBC mini-series Gore Vidal’s “Lincoln,” again earning critical praise and an Emmy® nomination. Many television movies followed including Stolen Babies for which she won a seventh Emmy® Award.

In portraying the murderous Sante Kimes in the CBS movie “Like Mother, Like Son,” she once again reminded the audience of her vast range. The movie aired in the spring of 2001 and ranked number seven of all primetime programs the week of its broadcast.

In 2004, she starred with Dick Van Dyke in the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, “The Gin Game,” on PBS, and for CBS television, an adaptation of the Anna Quindlen book “Blessings” in which she played the 82-year-old matriarch. In 2006, Moore starred in the CBS made for television movie, “Snow Wonder,” and also appeared in a guest-starring role on FOX’s “That 70s Show.”

Moore was seen as a guest-star on NBC’s “Lipstick Jungle” in 2008. In a multi-episode arc on the series, Moore played Joyce, a retired high-powered exec who forces Wendy, her studio-head daughter (played by Brooke Shields), to re-evaluate the work vs. family dilemma. Having blazed a trail for working women back in the 70’s and 80’s, Joyce challenges Wendy’s idealistic notion of “having it all,” leaving her overachieving daughter in a tailspin.

She was last seen in Peter Calahan’s dark comedy Against The Current opposite Joseph Fiennes and Justin Kirk. The film premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.

In 2009, Moore’s book “Growing Up Again” was published by St. Martin’s Press. The book is an in-depth look into Mary’s life with diabetes. The book includes conversations with remarkable people who live with the disease and those who work on the frontiers of medical research. All of Miss Moore’s profits for the book were donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Moore is the International Chairman of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). She was honored in 2007 with the JDRF Humanitarian of the Year Award. She is also active in numerous animal welfare organizations and funds scholarship programs in the arts and academics.
