The Marriage Ref

Jerry Seinfeld is back and in the producer’s chair for an all-new and improved second season of “The Marriage Ref.”

In this funny and revealing comedy panel series, real-life married couples take center stage as their quirky, funny and relatable disputes are explored, examined – and ultimately judged. For the sophomore run of “The Marriage Ref,” couples will appear in-studio and face a panel of “experts” composed of top celebrities and comedians who will weigh in and decide which spouse is right. The goal is to give couples something they have always wanted but have never had – a clear winner.

At the end of each episode, the studio audience will vote to make one of the winners “The Rightest of the Right.” These winners will receive $25,000 and their very own billboards, in their hometowns, declaring they are right.

Comedian Tom Papa (“The New Adventures of Old Christine,” “The Informant!”) is back in the center of the action where he serves as the host and the “ref.” Papa was personally chosen by Seinfeld for this role.

The Marriage Ref, premiered last Sunday night on NBC at 10pm. And I just happened to catch it. And while it wasn’t as funny as I expected it to be, I truly enjoyed watching Jerry Seinfeld, Julianne Moore, and Ricky Gervais interact with each other. I think that was more amusing than the contestants. However, I LOVED the “winning prize” – not only did they win 25,000, but they also won a billboard in their hometown stating they were RIGHT. And who wouldn’t love to win an argument with a billboard to prove it!

  1. I preferred the old and unimproved version. Why does everything have to go to an audience vote? The point of the show is that celebrities give personal opinions – often funny. Who cares what the audience thinks? I will probably keep watching it though. But with less interest.
