Season Premieres & Season Finales

WHAT’S ON TV TONIGHT??

Here is a quick run down of things to choose from or avoid.

America’s Next Top Model (The CW) 9th Season Premiere @ 8pm

Who doesn’t love this show? Me. I’ll pass. Thanks. I don’t need to feel any worse about myself image while watching rooms full of size 0’s with perfect hair and skin being told they aren’t ‘good enough’. How about… No.

Back To You, (Fox) 1st Series Premiere @ 9pm

a new situation comedy starring two Emmy winners, and sitcom veterans, Kelsey Grammer playing the role of Chuck Darling, and Patricia Heaton as Kelly Carr. These two have teamed up to play big time news anchors that have to appear as if they get along when the cameras are rolling, but the second there is a commercial break it is nothing but hostile tension, spewing venom, and words flying out of their mouths in fits of fury. Oh, and did I mention not only do they have to work together but that they are also divorced?

The show was created, written and executive-produced by Steven Levitan (”Just Shoot Me!” , ”Frasier”, “Wings” just to name a few) and Christopher Lloyd II (”Frasier”, ”The Golden Girls”) also sitcom legends.

My only concern with the show is that Kelsey Grammer may not be able to shake the Frasier image. I wonder if he will be able to make this new role believable to us viewers? I don’t know if I can buy into Kelsey being some womanizing self centered asshat. I have no fears concerning Patricia Heaton, she is a gem.

* However, I will be watching this.

Kid Nation (CBS) Series Premiere @ 8pm

40 Kids have 40 days to build a brave new world without adults to help or hinder their efforts. Can they do it? These Kids, ages 8-15, will turn a ghost town into their new home. They will cook their own meals, clean their own outhouses, haul their own water and even run their own businesses including the old town saloon (root beer only). Through it all, they’ll cope with regular childhood emotions and situations: homesickness, peer pressure and the urge to break every rule they’ve ever known.

Um…maybe? I am a little concerned in a Lord Of The Flies-esq sort of way. But, my curiosity always gets the best of me.

*I think its worth checking out.

‘Til Death’ (Fox) 2nd season premiere @ 8:30pm

A comedy about long-married couple Eddie (Brad Garrett) and Joy Stark (Joely Fisher), who are closing in on day 9,000 of their marriage and have the battle scars to prove it. Their new next-door neighbors are young newlyweds Steph (Kat Foster) and Jeff Woodcock (Eddie Kaye Thomas) – idealistic, passionate, adorable and married for a matter of days. It’s a show about new marriage versus old marriage, about keeping the romance alive – or at least staying together so you have someone to drive you to the hospital for your operations.

*My son loves this show. Well, he loves Brad Garret. So, I will be watching this (against my own better judgment).

Gossip Girl (The CW) 1st Series Premiere @ 9pm

Filmed in New York and based on the popular series of young-adult novels by Cecily von Ziegesar, “Gossip Girl”. No one knows Gossip Girl’s identity, but everyone in this exclusive and complicated vicious circle relies on her website and text messages for the latest scoop. They all live for gossip and scandal — along with fashion, shopping and partying in Manhattan’s trendiest hot spots. This is a world you have to be born into, full of wealth, and power.

*I am quite undecided on watching this show. But, as a self proclaimed TV Junkie, I feel it is my duty to give all new shows at least ONE shot…. to lure me in or loose me forever.

Kitchen Nightmares’ (Fox) Series Premiere @ 9pm

A reality series following chef Gordon Ramsay’s attempts to turn around troubled restaurants. Based on the popular British show.

** HELLZ YES**

I have been waiting for this one all summer long. I love Hells Kitchen. I love Gordon. I am all about this one!

Last Comic Standing (NBC) 5th Season Finale @ 9pm

This season has been pretty good. There was a much stronger focus placed on the female comedians. And YES, no big surprise to me, women, can be VERY funny. This show certainly helped me get through the drought that is summer TV.

  1. I may record the Kid Nation to watch later, if only because I am curious by all the stuff that’s been written about it.

If you watch the Frasier-as-Anchorman show, let me know. I have my doubts on that one, but I am open if it shows promise.

I only watch ANTM on reruns in VH-1, and get bored quickly.

I’ll also record the finale of Last Comic Standing. It conflicts with Top Chef, and even though I am getting sick of Chef, I am by now so invested in the season I have to keep on watching.

  2. My girlfriend Cory was a grand finalist and runner-up in season one of NBC’s Last Comic Standing. Its a great launching pad for women. Its done wonders for her career but she deserves it. She is so incredibly funny and talented!

  3. YES! Just double checked the DVR to make sure it was good to go for Til Death, Back To You, Kitchen Nightmares and Top Chef. Wheeee!

  4. Thanks for mentioning ‘Back To You.’ For some reason, my list doesn’t have the premiere showing for tonight, so I would have missed it altogether. I don’t have high hopes for the show, but will try a couple of episodes to see if it is worth investing in for the duration.

  5. KALI: Wow! Good for her! It is a wonderful platform and and excellent show.

    LESLIE: 🙂

CMK: and that is just why MeleVision is HERE!

AMBER: Well, considering YOU could / should BE ON THE SHOW I can see why ANTM is one of your guilty pleasures.
